and even older than domesticated fire (at 1.9 million years ago). Even before we had fire to sit around, we talked with wise people and threw the bones or cracked the turtle shells, seeking understanding and omens.
The symbols of the I'Ching and the Tarot are older than human history, and far older than civilization. The roots of them are in the stories humans told before there was a fire to sit around, and when the stories were told in the first gestural language. The wisdom and gritty experience of our race were distilled in those ancient stories, and into the ancient systems of divination that evolved out of them.
